Space Monitoring Center



Space monitoring center (SMC) was found on the basis of the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies - RTF as an educational research institution being capable of carrying out a full cycle of operations: beginning with information reception from earth resources satellites and ending with the final products of specialised processing in the form of thematic maps, different GIS products, data of ongoing space monitoring.

The structure of the SMC includes:

  • Terrestrial station "UniScan -24" for space information and X-band data reception, including  terminals for receiving, primary processing, holding and cataloguing of data received from the earth resources spacecrafts;
  • Laboratory of geoinformation technology and data processing of Earth remote sensing.


The station “UniScan24” provides an opportunity to online receive data obtained by Earth remote sensing systems of a low, middle and high spatial resolution. Today electrooptical sensors conduct information reception using satellites TERRA, AQUA, UK-DMC and RADARSAT radiolocator with a synthetic aperture.

The laboratory of geoinformational technologies and data processing of earth remote sounding is equipped with the software, which includes:

  • software packages of earth remote sounding data processing. They are ENVI with modules of space radar image processing SARscape Basic and SARscape InSAR ERDAS Imagine, ScanEX Image Processor, Fhotomod;
  • geoinformation systems: ArcGis, ArcView with special modules of geostatistical analysis, 3D simulation and dimensional analysis, MicroStation.

The laboratory is unrivalled judging by its cutting- edge dedicated software in Ural Federal District.


Services that we offer:

  1. Individual and team teaching to methods of earth remote sounding data processing in different applied problem solving (further education courses that give a duly issued identity card).
  2. Provision of methodological support for university professors who teach “Geo information systems”, “Basis of remote sensing” and so on.
  3. Method development of space multispectral and radar images processing in different issue-related problem solving and creation of geo information systems on their basis (renewal of digital topographic maps, ecological monitoring, detection and consequence assessment of natural and man-caused emergency, farmland resource accounting etc.).
  4. Scientific and technical consulting regarding the creation of theme maps and geo information systems on the basis of earth remote sensing data. 
  5. Conduction of scientific-research collaborative operations.
